ID.4 FAQs

You can see the estimated time of arrival (ETA) in the delivery tracker, available through MyVW . You can also get updates every step of the way so you can stay informed by this portal and via email.

You’ll be updated at every step of the delivery process, with progress emails when your car is being built, being shipped, and other content that will help you prepare for life as an EV owner.

We’ll give you a heads up when the vehicle is ready to purchase through the delivery tracker, available through MyVW . At that time, you must contact your selected dealer to finalize your purchase. Don’t worry, we’ll also send you an email.

You’ll be able to make updates to your reservation in edit my configuration until it locks. If you have changes to make, now is a good time to do so. If you’re not ready, we’ll give you a heads up (via email) on specifics about when your configuration will lock as it enters production.

Most dealers will have an ID.4 available for test drive so you can get behind the wheel before you purchase. Plus, we’ll have events in select cities and will email you about those events as they get closer—stay tuned!

We value your privacy. At certain points in the reservation process, we will share your information with your selected dealer to finalize your purchase and delivery. Please review the terms and conditions or more detail.

Unfortunately, you cannot use the deposit amount for other products or services. If you have further questions, you can contact Volkswagen Customer CARE through chat or by phone at 1-800-822-8987.

You can cancel your reservation online at any time in the process until the vehicle is picked up at the designated dealer. Just go to myVW  and select ‘cancellation’.

We will credit the entire reservation fee and vehicle deposit (if applicable) back to the original credit card on file used for reserving your car. You may check your payment details in through MyVW , during the cancellation process, or in the general dashboard after the cancellation.

Unfortunately, your reservation number is non-transferable. You would need to cancel the reservation to allow a new reservation under a different name.

A VW ID is how you save and manage your personal and reservation information and is also required to reserve an ID.4.

You have the option to update your personal details in My Profile located in the MyVW  portal.

Yes! The cool part? The vehicle senses your presence and intuitively starts when you have your key fob and touch the handle, “waking up” automatically. Screens blink on, and the car is ready for the road.

Driving the VW ID.4 is instant fun. From the moment your foot hits the pedal, you can enjoy instantaneous, powerful acceleration. With the ID.4 1rst Edition, you have the force to jump from 0-60 in just 7.8 seconds ⁵—thanks to the electric motor.

5. Always obey local speed and traffic laws.

Yes, when equipped with a factory installed tow hitch the 1st Edition of the ID.4 are rated to tow 2200 lbs. (with braked trailers) and all AWD versions of the ID.4 are rated to tow 2700 lbs. (with braked trailers) ⁴.

4. Maximum tow rating for braked trailer only when equipped with appropriate third-party trailer brake controller and factory-installed towing hitch. Vehicle load, other accessories, and options may reduce maximum towing capacity. See vehicle Owner’s Manual for details.

The good news is most VW dealers can service the ID.4. Use our Find a Dealer  tool to find your closest dealer.

The Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicle has an eight-year/100,000 mile (whichever occurs first) High Voltage Battery Warranty ¹. Additionally, other warranty benefits are covered in Carefree Coverage, which comes standard on all MY21 vehicles. It will have a four-year/50,000 mile (whichever occurs first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty ² Plus, you’ll get two years/20,000 miles (whichever occurs first) of Scheduled Carefree Maintenance ³. We have all these warranties and services in place because we believe being confident in your Volkswagen is everything. You can find all the warranty details on the ID.4 model page.

1. 8 year/100K miles (whichever occurs first) high-voltage battery limited warranty coverage on MY21 ID.4 electric vehicles. Battery capacity decreases with time and use. Warranty coverage may not return battery capacity to an “as new” condition with 100% net capacity. See owner’s literature or dealer for limited warranty details.

2. 4 years/50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty on most new MY2020 and 2021 VW vehicles. For vehicle eligibility details, visit https://vw.com/en/carefree-coverage. See owner’s literature or dealer for warranty exclusions and limitations.

3. VW’s Carefree Maintenance program provides the 10,000- and 20,000-mile scheduled maintenance services or scheduled maintenance services for two years (whichever occurs first) as stated in the vehicle’s maintenance booklet on most new MY2020 and 2021 VW vehicles. For vehicle eligibility details, visit vw.com/coverage. See dealer or owner’s literature for provided services, exclusions, and time and other limitations. The Carefree Maintenance program does not provide tire rotations, or other services or parts not specified in the owner’s literature.

Actual mileage and range will vary and depend on several factors including driving and charging habits, extreme hot or cold weather temperatures, battery age, and vehicle condition – many of the same conditions that affect the efficacy of a combustion engine vehicle. We equipped the VW ID.4 with an advanced battery that features an integrated cooling design to help optimize performance in a variety of conditions.

Yes, the ID.4 will come with an L1 charging cable. This charger will include a plug that can utilize a standard Level 1 120V household outlet (1.2 kW).

The ID.4 Pros S and 1st Edition can take you where you need to go with a manufacturer estimated 250⁶ miles of range. Range for all other versions is not yet available and will vary. The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 comes with 3 years of unlimited charging at Electrify America DC Fast Chargers at no additional cost⁷. Electrify America is the nation’s largest open fast charging network with chargers located coast to coast and along most major highways.

6. The ID.4 Pro S and 1st Edition have a preliminary manufacturer estimate of 250 miles range based on approximation of EPA test cycle. EPA estimates not yet available at this time. Actual range will vary and depend on several factors including driving and charging habits, accessory use, temperature and topography, battery age, load, and vehicle condition. Battery capacity decreases with time and use. See owner’s manual for details. Different vehicle variants, including AWD variants, will have different ranges.

7. Available on MY21 ID.4 vehicles. Non-transferable. Not available for commercial use, such as ridesharing. Requires Electrify America account, app, and acceptance of Terms of Use. After user-initiated charge session stop or vehicle reaches full charge, and 10-min grace period, Idle Fees will apply and user is responsible. In the event of suspected fraud or abuse or other unforeseen events, Volkswagen of America may discontinue or modify the offer in its sole discretion.
