Even though we can complete the service without an appointment, every battery replacement includes a certified technician, a specialized electrical testing instrument, and a brand new original equipment replacement battery. Many of our customers choose to schedule an annual battery inspection and testing to know precisely when an old battery needs to be retired. The first provision of a best-practice battery service is the physical inspection of the case looking for bloating, leaks, and disfiguration. If the battery is swollen or leaking, we know at this point that it will require replacement and voltage testing won’t be necessary to measure its electrical performance.
However, if the battery appears good physically, a certified technician uses a voltmeter to perform two fundamental electrical tests to determine if a replacement is necessary.
There are two fundamental parts of best-practice battery inspections – the physical case inspection and the electrical testing of the battery’s cold-cranking amps and reserve capacity. Cold-cranking amps describe how a battery performs sending voltage in cold conditions. As a battery’s performance declines, the cold-cranking amps will decrease lower than specifications until the engine won’t start.
Our battery replacement usually follows a failed physical inspection, failed electrical testing, or the battery is simply dead already. A certified technician begins by removing the old battery and inspecting the terminal to ensure it is corrosion free for a strong connection with the new battery.
If the terminal has corrosion, we can replace it quickly alongside the battery. If the battery charging system is in excellent condition, we will then install a new original equipment battery from our parts department to restore specifications.
