2023 Golf GTI 40th Anniversary Edition
Celebrating four decades of driving fun in the United States, Volkswagen will be releasing a 40th Anniversary Edition of the Golf GTI in 2023!
In 1983, Volkswagen defined the hot hatch in the United States by releasing the Rabbit GTI. The original Rabbit GTI was a uniquely American vehicle, born in the farmlands of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Assembled using parts made in Mexico, Canada, and Germany and built in America, it represents the melting pot that defines America. Forty years later and eight generations in, the GTI is the standard bearer for the hot hatch.
The 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI 40th Anniversary Edition represents the decades of driving fun and enthusiasm that is part of the Volkswagen ownership experience. With approximately 1500 units offered, it celebrates the history of the GTI while showing off the best of the best of the current eighth generation.
On the outside, 40 decals with a honeycomb design pattern run along the door sills. The grille is illuminated, and the multi-spoke 19-inch wheels are painted in gloss black with red pinstripe accents. These wheels are borrowed from the European Golf GTI Clubsport 45 model, bringing a more performance-focused quality to the special edition. There are also four exterior color options; Tornado Red and Urano Grey are unique and exclusive to the 40th AE. Opal White Pearl and the Pomelo Yellow Metallic round out the choices. Lastly, the black-painted roof with gloss black mirror caps creates a dramatic contrast to the exterior color.
Based on the GTI S trim, the interior is equipped with the traditional plaid seats, Scalepaper Plaid for the Mk8s, a golf-ball-inspired manual shift knob, honeycomb accents, and 40 clasp on the steering wheel. Under the hood is the turbocharged EA888 engine with 241hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. In addition, unique to the 40th AE, summer performance tires are shod on the Clubsport wheels, DCC adaptive damping is standard and speed-sensitive steering.
Going on sale mid-model year, the Golf GTI 40th AE will split the 1,500 units evenly with the 6-speed manual and 7-speed Tiptronic transmission. MSRP starts at $33,055 for the manual and $33,855 for the automatic. Contact us today to learn more!
