It’s time to take a look back at your and our favorite Autobahn Volkswagen Journal posts in 2022! When we started the Journals in January, our goal was to highlight the best of the best and deliver informative and visually pleasing content. And after a year’s worth of content, we’re excited to continue the journals for 2023!

For Volkswagen, we have three posts across our Facebook and Instagram pages that you guys loved. And for a bit of fun, let me, your dear writer/photographer/videographer, insert a few comments about the posts. 

1986 VOLKSWAGEN VANAGON

One of the most fabulous classic VWs to show up in our showroom, this 86 Vanagon Westfalia is a stunner. 1.9L TDI, manual transmission, and a battery backup running on solar power, this is an excellent example of #VanLife.

Your dear writer is a VW enthusiast, so when this showed up in our showroom one day, I felt weak in the knees! While I’m not much of a #VanLife kinda guy, everything about this Vanagon spoke to me, especially that manual transmission.

2022 VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 IN MOONSTONE GRAY

Moonstone Gray is one of the fun colors to come out this year(despite being gray), and when an ID.4 wears it, it makes it look even more futuristic. The blacked-out accents and IQ.Light give off that spaceship feels to the vehicle.

Moonstone Gray kinda reminds me of another gray from VW’s sister company, except there’s a bit more lighter shade. Hence, it pops more and, by extension a bit more fun. This would be my choice color if I had to get a new VW today.

2021 VOLKSWAGEN ARTEON

Arteon’s are one of the nicest looking cars on the road. It looks like a museum piece when it sits in our showroom.

The Arteon is so pretty, and as it was once sort of a halo car for VW, it became one of the VWs I really wanted to experience. And having had the chance to do that with many examples, the only knock, especially for the early models, was the 8-speed automatic. But that was fixed in 2022 when it received the 7-speed DCT.

The annual VW Roundup by Fort Worth Volks Folks club is a fantastic event full of VWs from every era. So if you wanted to see all the classics in one spot, this is the place to be.

The Roundup is straight-up VW heaven. Some of the Beetles in the show were your pristine classics to rat rods that could smoke you easily. I like seeing some weirder stuff like Karmann Ghias, Sciroccos, and the Thing. Speaking of……

Instagram Favorite: THE 1974 VOLKSWAGEN THING

The VW Thing was our first post on the Journal, so it’s really lovely to see it up here.

Another fun VW classic in our showroom. One of the things we love about VW is its history, and we plan to keep honoring the past by bringing in even more classics to our showroom. 

Personal Favorite: 2022 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI OVERVIEW

The GTI is what brought me to the VW world. My car enthusiast story started in JDM land with a little two-door convertible born in the late 80s and is currently in its 4th generation. So when it was time to replace that, I needed a car that could do everything, and that’s when the GTI came in. 

This video is also one of my favorites because that MK7 GTI in the video is mine. We wanted to make a video about the MK8, and Vinson was like, why don’t we just use your MK7 to do a comparison video, so there it is haha. And for it to become immortalized in a video is cool because this is probably my last gasoline car ever. It’s got the 6-speed manual and the performance package, then I opted to swap the headlights with units from a Golf R. To me, this is all I needed. Buuuuut, if I somehow stumble upon a 6-speed MT MK8 Golf R in the future…
